Today is my second time in studying Technology in Language Learning with Mr.Teguh as my lecturer. In this subject today, I learned about the brief history of Technology and Language Learning throughout 1950’s until this present time.
Computer has now become an important part of the language class. It’s really help students to improve their learning activity. The use of computers in language learning class can simplify the process of gathering information for the student, about the subjects that they are studying, as well as facilitate the role of teacher who act as facilitator, mentor, and also supervisor inside the learning activities.
When we talk about computers and the internet, this is very closely related to the era of globalization, where people from all over the world met through cyberspace. This is what became one of the advantages of using computers in language classes, which provide opportunities for every students to socialize with people from different places, so not only learn about language, but they also can learn about other common knowledge, such as culture, religion , politics, music, art, science, and many others.
In addition to the advantages that possessed by the use of computers in language classes, we also have to aware with some of the disadvantages which it has, because every "tool" always has positive and negative values respectively. One of the disadvantages is, the computer can’t handle undesirable situations, such as technical malfunction, power failure, virus, and others. In addition the teacher should be very extra careful in monitoring the use of computers for students. By using Internet access, students can obtain a wide range of infinite information, so sometimes the information that does not match wiyth the learning objectives have also most likely be accessible, such as pornography and acts of violence.
That’s why as a language teacher candidate, I must realize that i have a big role and responsibility as facilitator, mentor, and also supervisor inside the learning activities of my language class someday.

Martan, I do agree with your statements. I'm wondering how could you handle that "internet access" thing from the unwanted sites which for example contain pornography? As we know that there are so many ways that the students can do even if we ban the sites. Thanks for sharing, Martan :)
computer give so much help in learning and teaching process, indeed. but, I think there are many technologies beside computer we can use if it come to its disadvantage... right? so don't only stuck in computer :DD
do you think that by the time, teacher`s role will be replaced by technology ?
@Ira Permatasari: actually we have a lot of ways to prevent the bad effect from the internet, but from my opinion actually it's a part of teacher responsibility to give an understanding of the negative effect from internet. so, every student have their own awareness. thanks for your comment. :)
@Risma A : thanks for your comment Risma. ya, you are right. don't give your 100% trust to technology. we have to be creative in finding alternative way for prevent the disadvantage of technologies. :)
@Ika Siti Utami : no, I don't think that it will replace teacher's role, because technology is only a part of learning tools. thanks for your comment Ikaa.. :D
