I CALL it digitalization..

       Nowadays, teaching and learning process has been equipped with a lot of new modern things. Digitalization happened in almost all of aspects in educational field. Digitalization means that technology is involved to help the teachers for conducting their teaching process.
            CALL (Computer Assisted Language Learning) has become an ordinary thing in almost every class inside the schools. But there is one question surround up in my mind. Is it effective to enhancing student’s capability inside the learning process especially in speaking and listening aspect?
            Finally in the last meeting of Technology Language Learning subject, this question is revealed. The answer is ya, technology can help us to enhance learner’s capability of listening and speaking. Actually the most helpful thing is internet, because there are a lot of websites that can be a useful tool for learning speaking and listening. For example, in teaching speaking skill we can go to http://www.englishspeakingonline.com/. It’s  a website that provide examples of conversations. Here, teachers can ask their students to Listen to the correct pronunciation given by native English speakers,  then Repeat and record the phrase, and Compare your pronunciation to native English speakers. This website not only help student to practice their speaking skill but also help them to produce the correct pronounciation by comparing their record result to the native English speakers.
            From this meeting, i got some new inspirations to teach my students someday, and i know that digitalization is a new way to create a better learning process.

Hey teacher, wake up!! It’s a digital era.
                Today isn’t blackboard and chalk era. Today is a digital era, where technology becomes a part of learning tools. As a teacher candidate in this digital era, we have to be very creative and aware of the technology development. It isn’t only aware about how to use it, but also how to apply the technology inside the learning process. So, every teacher can provide students’ needs of technology.
                This digital era also have an impact to the students’ thinking process. Their thinking process now is extremely different from their predecessor. Dr. Bruce D Perry of Baylor College of Medicine said that different kinds of experiences lead to different brain structures. It means that the teacher should keep updating their knowledge of technology, so they can handle this development of thinking process.
                Actually effect from the development of digital era can we see from the students’ behavior in learning. Students nowadays receive information faster, it because they can have access information from all over the world easily. Students also have capability to be multi-tasking person because technology can help them to do more than one activities in the same time. Because the effect of digital era, we can call students nowadays as digital native.

TLL Journal Reflection

Today is my second time in studying Technology in Language Learning with Mr.Teguh as my lecturer. In this subject today, I learned about the brief history of Technology and Language Learning throughout 1950’s until this present time.
Computer has now become an important part of the language class. It’s really help students to improve their learning activity. The use of computers in language learning class can simplify the process of gathering information for the student, about the subjects that they are studying, as well as facilitate the role of teacher who act as facilitator, mentor, and also supervisor inside the learning activities.
When we talk about computers and the internet, this is very closely related to the era of globalization, where people from all over the world met through cyberspace. This is what became one of the advantages of using computers in language classes, which provide opportunities for every students to socialize with people from different places, so not only learn about language, but they also can learn about other common knowledge, such as culture, religion , politics, music, art, science, and many others.
In addition to the advantages that possessed by the use of computers in language classes, we also have to aware with some of the disadvantages which it has, because every "tool" always has positive and negative values ​​respectively. One of the disadvantages is, the computer can’t handle undesirable situations, such as technical malfunction, power failure, virus, and others. In addition the teacher should be very extra careful in monitoring the use of computers for students. By using Internet access, students can obtain a wide range of infinite information, so sometimes the information that does not match wiyth the learning objectives have also most likely be accessible, such as pornography and acts of violence.
That’s why as a language teacher candidate, I must realize that i have a big role and responsibility as  facilitator, mentor, and also supervisor inside the learning activities of my language class someday.

Future Learning is All about Portable Learning

           As we know that the development of technology has change human’s habitual inside their life and It also change the way of learning process nowadays. MALL is one result of the technology development that enhances the opportunity to learn language for the students. Opportunity means students can learn language anytime when they wan to learn it.
            Mobile learning is such a brighter way to answer student’s needs of portable learning. By using their mobile device they can access learning portal and learn anywhere and anytime that they want too. One of mobile device that can be used as a tool for language learning is PDA.
            Just like its name, PDA (Personal Digital Assistant), or also known as a palmtop computer, or personal data assistant, is a mobile device that functions as a personal information manager. Current PDAs often have the ability to connect to the Internet. A PDA has an electronic visual display, enabling it to include a web browser, but some newer models also have audio capabilities, enabling them to be used as mobile phones or portable media players.
            Many PDAs can access the Internet, intranets or extranets via Wi-Fi or Wireless Wide Area Networks. Many PDAs employ touchscreen technology. By using this mobile device students can learn language in many ways. For example, I am a student, I want to learn language, and I have a PDA. I just have to access to internet and browse for some websites that provide the tools/features and resources that can be used as my learning aid. By using PDA I can access the data every time that I need, it means I don’t have to come to my PC to learn language. It’s easier and simpler.
                 From this meeting of TLL subject, i know that we as a new generation of teacher can provide an easier way for our digital native students a new way of learning language; it’s cheaper, efficient, and more interesting.
